Citizenship Award Winner—McKenna Golden

June 18th, 2021

McKenna Golden is a Grade 9 student at Fort Assiniboine School. She was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Teacher Pauline Payne.

McKenna demonstrates responsibility in many ways. Whether learning at home or in-person, she consistently has assignments handed in on time. When she has questions about the parameters of her work, she never hesitates to seek clarification from teachers, no matter the circumstances. She has participated in team sports, Students’ Union, and Yearbook Committee throughout her junior high years and her participation is all-inclusive. One example of this is McKenna’s willingness to work on the Yearbook platform at home, without being asked to do so.

McKenna is a compassionate and caring individual who helps and supports others. Payne says, “I have seen evidence of this over and over in the past three years.” In multi-age groups, she seeks genuine conversation and connection with others, no matter the age difference. She can be placed on a team or in a group with anyone, and will do her best to lift them up by giving them encouragement and truly listening to them without judgement. She inspires others to think more critically by demonstrating doing so herself, but also, by encouraging them to do so themselves.

McKenna is goal oriented by nature and works towards her goals. This is evidenced by her ability to keep track of ALL deadlines, academic or otherwise, and her need to clarify expectations as she works through assignments. McKenna knows how to break down assignments and projects into manageable chunks. This helps her to stay focused, on task, and meeting her goals.

The school board is pleased to present McKenna with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community. Congratulations!
