Citizenship Award Winner— Keysha McKort

June 17th, 2022

Keysha McKort is a Grade 8 student at Fort Assiniboine School. She was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Teacher Dallas Wyman.

Last year Fort Assiniboine School won a grant to build a large hydroponics system from scratch. Keysha not only played a major role in helping win the grant but also in building the system. She takes time to ensure that everyone is working together and encourages others to try their best. Keysha demonstrated responsibility by taking on a leadership role in both the design and building of the project. Wyman says, “The project would not be completed without her.”

With cross-grade activities largely on hold because of Covid restrictions the last two years, many older students have been out of practice interacting with younger ones. This has not been the case for Keysha, as she goes out of her way to help and support all students, even if it means leaving her friend group. During skating this year she helped out with the kindergarten students by tying their skates and engaging with them on the ice. She always brings a smile to the class, and many of the younger students are excited to see her.

Wyman says, “Each day in class Keysha is one of our most dependable students. She consistently completes her work to a high quality, engages in class discussions, and is willing to take risks and step outside of her comfort zone.” Keysha also takes on a leadership role in writing groups, simulations, and in math class as she helps out her peers.

The school board is pleased to present Keysha with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community. Congratulations!
