Together with Pembina Hills trustees and respective school principals, Superintendent Brett Cooper completed a series of Student Council meetings at each division school that were designed to gather student perspectives on their school experiences.
Superintendent Cooper facilitated discussions with students from various grade levels where they were invited to share their thoughts on the positive aspects of their schools and areas for potential improvement and were also asked targeted questions regarding their learning, based on the division’s Assessment Framework. The meetings aimed to provide a direct channel for student feedback, that will inform future decisions and resulted in conversations that provided a comprehensive understanding of student experiences and priorities.
“We were deeply impressed by the thoughtful and insightful contributions from our students,” shared Superintendent Cooper. “Their perspectives on what makes their school experiences positive and their ideas for change are invaluable as we continue to strive for excellence.”
The PHSD Board of Trustees emphasizes the importance of direct student engagement, emphasizing that student feedback is essential for ensuring decisions reflect student needs and aspirations.
The division has plans to complete another series of meetings in the next school year.
We thank all the students, principals and trustees who participated in these productive meetings, reaffirming the division’s dedication to student empowerment and valuing student voices.
