Caring and sharing 2021

Students at Pembina North Community School held a Toonie Drive for the Westlock and District Food Bank.  They raised a total of $1025.00. Pictured are Grade 1 students Logan Spearin and Mya Kikernik holding the cheque that will be mailed to the Food Bank.

Students at Dunstable School collected items for their Tree of Warmth. They also held their annual Stuff a Stocking campaign to collect toys and small stocking stuffers for FCSS.

Grade 3 students at Neerlandia Public Christian School made Christmas Boxes/Center Pieces to give to a local individuals or families. It was part of a cross-curricular exploration of measurement and bible which resulted in a Christmas Box service project. Several parents offered to create the boxes for the student’s measurement scavenger hunt. Decorations were then also donated to fill them and create the Christmas center pieces. Students were tasked with praying together with their parents for someone in their community who needed some extra love. Students then gifted their Christmas Box to those people. The entire school also made cash donations to FCSS.

Regional Office staff sponsored a local family through the Barrhead FCSS Adopt a Family. With a total of $550 in donations and gift donations, they were able to provide gifts and food for their family. The presents and food hamper was delivered to Barrhead FCSS on December 16th.

RO Adopt a family 2021

At Barrhead Elementary School, Ms. Chapman’s 2B Class started off with a goal of adopting 2 seniors for the holiday season! They had more than enough donations brought in by students in 2B for 15 seniors at Keir Care! In addition to that, the 2A, 2B and 2C classes made about 300 total decorations and cards for seniors in Keir care and area!

Sorin Andres from Ms. Lynch’s 3D Class and Vivian Andres from Mrs. Starman’s 3C class have been doing some wonderful fundraising for the Hot Lunch Program at BES. Together, with the help of some adults, they created Christmas decorations, bandanas and dog treats, which they sold at local markets, raising almost $500!

This year 6B decided to collect items to put together shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, a program that collects gift-filled shoeboxes from caring donors and distributes them to struggling kids in the developing world. The program has brought joy – and a powerful message of hope – to over 135 million children so far. Students collected toys, school supplies, toiletries, and special gift items to put together a total of seven boxes!

Westlock Elementary School staff also took part in FCSS Adopt a Family in Westlock, in which they sponsored an anonymous family in the community. Staff members either donated money, which goes toward grocery gift cards or purchased toys, clothing, shoes etc. for the children in the family.

Barrhead Composite High School’s Leadership Group participated in the Annual Foodbank Drive.  School staff also held a toy drive this year.

Fort Assiniboine School is so grateful for small school Christmas traditions like the white elephant sale, Christmas dinner, Christmas carols played on the piano and dancing to Christmas music playing outside while the snow falls. Students enjoyed a turkey dinner which they were able to share with their neighbours at the Seniors residence. They would like to thank their volunteers as well as Peter Kuelken, Woodlands County Councillor for providing the turkeys. They also gave the birds and squirrels some Christmas presents—ornaments made out of peanut butter and bird seed.

R. F. Staples Secondary School participated in the Christmas Star initiative again this year—students and staff give back to their community by selecting a star with the age and gender of a child who would not be receiving a Christmas gift. Participants then purchase a gift for that child and drop it off at the office.
