Building a legacy of kindness, our schools come together each year to support their communities through a wide variety of initiatives. From charity drives to events that lift spirits and spread joy, our students and staff are making a positive impact. Take a look at some of the inspiring projects that have taken place across our schools!

Barrhead Composite High School (BCHS)

BCHS students and staff collected more than 1300 pounds of items for the Barrhead Food Bank and toys for Santa’s Toy Box in December.

BCHS students participated in a video game “Wake-a-Thon” November 29-30, raising over $4,000 for STARS Air Ambulance.

École Barrhead Elementary School (BES)

Students and staff at BES held a Food Drive Challenge collecting several items for the Barrhead Food Bank (pictured below). The school also collected outdoor gear for their Giving Tree with donations going to Barrhead FCSS.
Groups of students also took the time to write letters to local seniors and the elementary choir sang Christmas carols at a local care facility.

Busby School

Students and staff at Busby School collected items for their Tree of Warmth at their Christmas concert on December 18. They also held a food drive in October and collected donations at their Christmas concert in support of Westlock FCSS.

Dunstable School

Dunstable School held a “Scare Away Hunger” food drive campaign in the last week of October, collecting more than 200 lbs of food for the Barrhead Food Bank.

Eleanor Hall

Students and staff collected donations during their “8 Days of Food Bank Giving December 2-12” totalling over 100 items and approximately $300 in monetary donations for the Westlock Food Bank.

Fort Assiniboine School

The school’s Parent Society put on a school-wide turkey dinner on Tuesday, December 17. Students also had the opportunity to participate in the school’s annual “White Elephant Gift Shop” sale on December 17 and 18 where all students had the chance to purchase gifts for their parents or siblings ranging from $0.50 to $3.00.

Neerlandia Public Christian School (NPCS)

Students and staff at NPCS collected nearly 300 pounds of food and more than $400 in cash donations this school year so far for the Barrhead Food Bank!

The Kindergarten class showed their holiday spirit by hosting a Christmas book fundraiser with proceeds going towards supporting those in need. The grade 2 class was able to fill six boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Pembina North Community School (PNCS)

Throughout December, Pembina North Community School held a Winter Clothing Drive with donations going to the Westlock FCSS Coats for Kids & Families Program (pictured below).

The grade 6 class helped Westlock FCSS staff sort and organize items for their Christmas Spirit Program. See the PNCS Facebook post for more photos.

During the month of October, the school held a Toonie Drive where classes compete to see who can raise the most money and the top three classes who raise the most money get to throw pies made of cream at a staff member of their choice. The fundraiser collected more than $3,400 for the Westlock and District Food Bank! See the PNCS Facebook post for more photos.

The grade 6 class also helped the Westlock FCSS staff tote, sort and organize all of the items for their Christmas Spirit Program.

The school also enjoyed a full Christmas meal together at the Jarvie Community Center courtesy of the Pembina River Natural Gas Co-op.  See the PNCS Facebook post for a compilation of photos.

Swan Hills School

Swan Hills School students, staff and community members came together once again to “Stuff-a-Bus” with items for the Swan Hills Food Bank. More than 200 bags were created (containing 4-5 items each) for those in need.

Westlock Elementary School

Students from Westlock Elementary School collected winter gear for their Giving Tree in December, donating items to Westlock FCSS.

Westlock Outreach

Students from Westlock Outreach School helped the Soul Sister Memorial Foundation package up 41 Christmas parcels for the residents at Ambrose Place Edmonton. This is a project that Soul Sisters has done for 8 years and this year the students helped.
Division Office

Staff at our Division Office collected 89lbs of food items and $270 in monetary donations for the Barrhead Food Bank!
