Citizenship Award Winner – Brody Metzger

December 12th, 2019

Brody Metzger is a Grade 2 student at Eleanor Hall School and was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Teacher Jesslynn Smith. Brody demonstrates responsibility daily by cleaning up after himself and others without being prompted. He admits if he makes a mistake and will go back and try again without hesitation.

Smith says, “When playing a math game in class, Brody lost the game but he did not get upset. Instead, Brody stood up and put his hand out to shake with the opposing player. As he was shaking, he congratulated the opponent and at this moment I knew that Brody had a positive attitude no matter the circumstances. He displays, time and time again, what it means to see the best in any situation at school.”

Every week, the Grade 2 class has senior buddies come from the Westlock Continuing Care Center. Brody has a buddy that is in a wheelchair, extremely quiet and whose hands shake quite aggressively. Each week, Brody welcomes him, helps take his jacket on and off, holds his juice, has a genuine conversation and makes him feel special and important. Smith says, “I have heard that this man goes back to Continuing Care and tells people how excited he is to come back and visit because of Brody’s kindness.”

The school board is pleased to present Brody with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions he makes in his school and community. Congratulations!
