Citizenship Award Winner — Jason Laboucane

May 18th, 2023

Jason Laboucane is a Grade 9 student at Eleanor Hall School. He was nominated for a Citizenship Award by teachers Michelle Savoie and Marie Wasieczko.

In his CTF chess class, Jason has taken on a leadership role. He has been spotted showing kindness with teaching other kids how to play, offering strategies and can even be seen at lunch time coaching other students to play their best chess games. He was very supportive of his developing peers on his basketball team and encouraged everyone to play their best. Jason has eagerly volunteered to participate in the Student Wellness Action Team (SWAT) and had fun developing and playing Halloween and Christmas games with the K-3 students. He was patient and kind with each group of little kids that came to his station.

Jason is aware of his own challenges, taking ownership of his decisions and behaviours. His self-awareness has made it so he can see challenges in other students too and he shows concern for others often checking in on his peers and he will see if they need help to regulate their own behaviours. He has supported his peers when they need help focusing or are struggling with a concept and also notices when staff might need to provide a kind word or a check in.

Jason has regular attendance at school. He has been doing morning announcements for the entire school year and can be depended on to come to school early to check over the announcement binder and be prepared. He was also the captain of the basketball team and would rally the team to do their best, making sure they were ready to play. He has been called upon to referee various elementary basketball games and has always been a fair and responsible referee.

The Board of Trustees is pleased to present Jason with a Citizenship Award in recognition of the positive contributions he makes in his school and community.

Congratulations Jason!
