Citizenship Award Winner — Kiya Ford

May 31st, 2023

Kiya is a Grade 6 student at Busby School. She was nominated for a Citizenship Award by her teacher Jim Schaffer.

Kiya is described as a hardworking person. She undertakes chores at home, taking care of many different animals and helps out her mom in the kitchen. In addition, she is involved in 4-H where she eagerly undertakes the many different activities. At school, she completes all of her tasks with quality in mind, steadily working towards her goals. She enjoys completing wonderful art pieces and writing detailed stories. During different athletic activities, she practices as hard as she plays. This year she has become a more aggressive player in soccer and basketball and this has made her a key team member of the Bobcats. All of the activities convey Kiya’s constant goal to improve her knowledge, her skills and herself to become a better person. She is constantly improving and looking for places to improve.

Kiya is a model student that all of her classmates can look up to. When her friends are getting silly or loud during class time, Kiya has the courage to do what is right and puts her head down and gets to work. Her teachers appreciate when she courageously tells her friends that they are off task and need to get to work.

At school, Kiya can be depended on for any task. She eagerly volunteers to help clean up the gym storage room, move chairs for assemblies and help out in the classroom. Every morning Kiya can be found holding the front door open for all the Busby students. Her tremendous smile greet each student and ensures that students enter in an orderly manner. Recently, Kiya has used her chicken farming skills to help with the chicks raised in the grade 2 classroom. Her knowledge was appreciated during the hatching and she helped with the care of the chicks after they were born.

The school board is pleased to present Kiya with a Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community.

Congratulations Kiya!
