Citizenship Award Winner — Landen Howard

February 16th, 2023

Landen Howard is a Grade 1 student at Neerlandia Public Christian School. He was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Teacher Juanita Henschel.

Landen is described as a natural helper, always willing to help his classmates. He offers to get their shoes from the boot room when they are not able to reach their footwear or to help pick up messes such as when a classmate spills their pencil box. Throughout the day, Landen is quick to notice someone needing support. He is observant about the needs in the classroom and will quickly, and quietly, go and offer help to the teacher and fellow students, often without being asked. When the teacher asks for a volunteer, even when it’s not a fun job, Landen willingly offers. He is also a true gentleman, always ready to hold open a door or help carry a backpack.

Landen has a smile on his face and cheerfully greets classmates and teachers every day. He makes everyone feel welcome and important. He includes classmates in playground fun, asking kids to play, and making sure that no one is left out. Landen is also very polite. He does not need reminders to use his manners, he quickly hands out “please”, “thank you”, “excuse me” and “pardon me”. He is thoughtful, caring, and kind making sure others are being included and that they know that he cares about them and their feelings.

Landen is consistent with following routines and expectations. He listens and follows directions without needing them to be repeated. He shows that he cares about the effort of others and that he truly wants to be respectful and pleasant. He works hard to do his best and even when things are hard, Landen does not give up. Struggles and challenges do not stop him and he perseveres through all activities, showing diligence and care.

The school board is pleased to present Landen with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions he makes in his school and community. Congratulations!
