Citizenship Award Winner – Layla Petryshen

May 24th, 2019

Layla Petryshen is a Grade 3 student at Fort Assiniboine School and she was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Principal Lorna Hiemstra. Mrs. Hiemstra describes Layla as someone who is always ready to lend a hand to those who need it. When Layla has finished her assigned work, she constantly asks if there is anything she can do to help around the classroom. She is a member of the Student’s Union group and consistently volunteers to assist with activities like hot lunch, Bear House games, and community projects. Layla displays kindness in everything she does. She is polite, uses good manners, and naturally helps others.

Layla also has the ability to sense when her classmates are struggling with an assignment or not feeling themselves and offers assistance on a regular basis. During recess breaks, Layla encourages younger students to join in activities and makes sure everyone feels included. Layla can consistently be depended on to be a person of her word. She completes her assignments and classroom “jobs” with integrity and care, and is also a founding member of the school’s Singing Club.

In recognition of making positive contributions to her school and community, the Board presents the Citizenship Award to Layla. Congratulations!!
