Citizenship Award Winner—Mark Stewart

August 23rd, 2021

Mark Stewart is a Grade 7 student at Vista Virtual School. He was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Teacher Michelle Blagdon.

Mark’s enthusiastic approach to all learning activities makes him an asset to any virtual classroom.  He demonstrates responsibility in his learning, especially showing a keenness to improve in any area where growth is indicated. Mark has a very organized approach to his goals. He sets goals and works very hard to achieve them. For example, in September, he set the personal goal of finishing all his courses in May while maintaining his academic standards. Mark achieved this goal the last week in April.

Mark displays kindness to others by being very active in his community. For the past 6 years, Mark has participated in a community food drive in which he delivers pamphlets door to door to inform the community of when the food drive will happen. He then returns with an adult to collect the donations and carry them to the Calgary Food Bank. Mark was an active Cub Scout member for years and achieved Chief Scout responsibilities where his task included organizing and helping with learning activities for the younger members. He also volunteered his time with a running program, and because of his dedication, he was promoted to assistant coach.

Mark understands the importance of helping and supporting others and being involved in his community. His local church is very thankful for his volunteer time on their local activity committee, of which he is the president.

The school board is pleased to present Mark with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions he makes in his school and community. Congratulations!
