June 19th, 2019

Payton Sonnenberg is a Grade 9 student at Barrhead Composite High School. She was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Teacher Jordan Mazereeuw who says that many teachers have commented on Payton’s infectious smile, positive attitude, and kind nature. She supports her peers by working hard to include everyone. She is truly excited about school and pushes her peers to discover the joy in education and not just obsess about the marks.

Payton demonstrates responsibility through her involvement in many extracurricular activities including High School Curling and Junior High Drama. She is very dedicated to the curling team and exhibits maturity in challenging situations. In drama, Payton lights up the stage and encourages others to match her level. Payton’s involvement in drama has been pivotal to the group’s success.

Payton works hard to encourage everyone. One example of Payton’s kindness was in a recent class when she noticed one group was struggling and not feeling confident in their skills. Payton went out of her way to help coach and support them, cheering them on and offering encouragement. It was evident by their smiles how much this meant.

The school board is pleased to present Payton with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community. Congratulations!
