Ava and Farrah Bomersback are Grades 8 and 6 students at Eleanor Hall School. They were nominated for Citizenship Awards in a joint submission by bus drivers Shawn Pelletier and Danielle Simmons.

Both Ava and Farrah are described as positive, cheerful, helpful, responsible and supportive, to name a few. Their regular school bus driver, Danielle Simmons, notes that she has gotten to know both students well in the last nearly two years of driving their bus. 

In that time, both students have shown their glowing personalities. Their cheerful demeanor and willingness to do things without being asked is evident each day. They have taken on responsibility in helping younger kids at their stops, sitting up front with them, ensuring they have their things when leaving. Particularly with the younger riders from having simple conversation, showing concern, cheering them up with a story or song if they have had an off day, to helping the sleepy Kindergartners from falling out of their seat or waking them up when it’s their stop. Their bus driver knows she can count on them to engage and entertain the younger kids during the sometimes long ride. They will take the time to listen to others’ questions and give positive responses.

When Simmons had to take a leave of absence earlier this year, Shawn Pelletier took on the route. Simmons provided him with the typical information about the route, and the students who rode and introduced him to Ava and Farrah. Simmons asked both students to give a hand to their temporary driver while she was away and it didn’t take long for Pelletier to see what Simmons meant when she described Ava and Farrah. 

They were instrumental in the experience Pelletier had in his time covering the route. They helped with navigating and where to stop showing a lot of patience and understanding. Their help allowed Pelletier to focus more on driving down the busy road.

Both drivers agree that the bus rides are a better experience for everyone when Ava and Farrah are on board. Pelletier notes during his time covering, he had a fantastic experience with all of the students, largely due to Ava and Farrah. They have made a lasting impression on both drivers.

The Board of Trustees is pleased to present Ava and Farrah with Citizenship Awards in recognition of the positive contributions they make in their school and community.
