Laura Mackenzie receives the Exemplary Support Services Award

Laura Mackenzie is a Program Assistant at École Barrhead Elementary School and has been with Pembina Hills for 10 years.

Laura brings a positive attitude to school each day and has the ability to remain calm in even the most explosive situations. With her quiet demeanor, she is able to regulate her students quickly without conflict. She has worked with some of the most severe needs students in the learning community and has always shown motivation, caring, understanding, poise and professionalism.

Laura works extremely well with colleagues and is able to both offer and accept new ideas to further assist with her position as a program assistant. She is always offering to help in other classrooms if there is a need and if she is able to accommodate. Willing to take on any role and any assignment, Laura is considered to be highly skilled at what she does.

Laura is a positive role model for all staff and students in the school. Her nominator says, “She is one of those individuals who does not realize how great she is because it comes so naturally for her. The work she does, the attitude she brings and the willingness to do what needs to be done are so very much appreciated.” BES students and staff all benefit from Laura’s presence. She is a valued and respected colleague who builds connections with all students.
