Emergency teams respond to bus incident with logging truck

November 2nd, 2021

Updated 11:40 am, November 1, 2021: We’ve learned additional information that one student was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons. After examination, the doctor advised the parents of the injured child to follow concussion protocols. All parents and staff are asked to continue to monitor students who were involved in this incident.

Between 8:30 and 8:45 am this morning, Pembina Hills Bus #25 was stopped at the intersection of Hwy 18 and 33 in Barrhead when it was involved in an incident with a log truck. We believe the log truck was making a right hand turn when a log made contact with the bus. Besides the injury noted above, there were no other injuries and all students and the bus driver were evacuated from the bus. Parents of the students on the bus were contacted by phone.

Several police, fire and ambulance staff were on the scene within minutes to assist with the evacuation of the bus. Student services staff were also on scene to support students and will remain available throughout the day.

RCMP are investigating the cause of the incident. We sincerely appreciate the swift response from all Barrhead emergency services personnel and for their continued support of the people involved.

We are so thankful that no one was injured. The school division will continue to provide support for students and families in consideration of their emotional needs due to this incident.
