Pembina Hills Teacher Named Honorary President for Teachers’ Convention

February 13th, 2025

We would like to extend our congratulations to one of our teachers, Joanne Wallace, who has been named the Honorary President for the North Central Teachers’ Convention Association (NCTCA) convention for 2025! This prestigious recognition celebrates Joanne’s exceptional contributions to the organization and support of professional growth opportunities for her colleagues.

Joanne has been a teacher for ~21 years, with the last 13 spent inspiring students in Pembina Hills. Her involvement with the NCTCA convention began around 2008 when she volunteered as a local school representative, chairing sessions for her previous school division. Since then, her dedication has only grown.

Joining the NCTCA Convention Board in 2012/2013, Joanne played a vital role in various aspects of the convention organization. She recalls early tasks like the meticulous process of labelling and packaging hundreds of convention identifiers – a far cry from the streamlined ID card system used today. Over the years, Joanne contributed to several sub-committees, including the Program Committee, where she reviewed session proposals and a committee tasked with revising and updating the NCTCA constitution in 2019.

Some of Joanne’s most memorable experiences include hosting sessions during online conventions. As a chairperson, she not only introduced guest speakers but also managed the interactive chat rooms, facilitating engaging discussions among attendees. She was particularly honoured to work with notable figures like Olympian Waneek Horn-Miller and mathematician John Mighton.

We are incredibly proud of Joanne’s accomplishments and her well-deserved recognition. Her dedication to the NCTCA and her passion for education make her a true inspiration to her colleagues and the entire Pembina Hills community. Congratulations Joanne!
