School Bus Safety Week 2018

October 19th, 2018

We’re celebrating School Bus Safety Week from October 21-27. We take this opportunity to recognize our bus drivers and thank them for the dedication, care and caution they exercise every day to help keep our students safe. It’s a huge responsibility and they do it well.

Training for students
Our students are learning how to be responsible riders, thanks to the Safely on Board program that is making stops at all Pembina Hills Public Schools this fall. Students in Kindergarten, Grades 2, 4, 6 and 8 will take part this year — in our smaller schools where classes are combined we have offered it to students in other grades as well. We believe this professional training done at the beginning of the school year will reinforce that students be responsible riders all year long. Several training sessions have already been completed and will continue throughout November. We are receiving great reviews from the schools and students!

Bus evacuation drills
In addition to student training, we will run school bus evacuation drills throughout October in conjunction with School Bus Safety Week. This will help to solidify what the students are learning in the bus safety lessons.

Poster contest
K-6 Students are invited to participate in the ASTAC School Bus Safety poster contest – the deadline is October 31, 2018.

Driver awareness
While student education is critical when it comes to bus safety, driver awareness is equally important to focus on during School Bus Safety Week. Stay tuned to our facebook page for posts to help increase driver awareness.
