This award is not simply a recognition of high grades or athletic prowess; it is an acknowledgment of character. It honors a student who understands that the strength of a community is built on the reliability and heart of its members. We are proud to recognize Rebecca Armstrong for her outstanding contributions.

For the past three years, Rebecca has been a dedicated presence in Krista Bartman’s kindergarten classroom at Dr. Ken Sauer Fine Arts School.

Her commitment is reflected not only in her actions, but also in the remarkable number of hours she has devoted to serving others:

  • 2023–2024: 40 hours
  • 2024–2025: 74 hours
  • 2025–2026: 82 hours

As of March 22, 2026, Rebecca has contributed an incredible 196 hours of service.

Beyond the numbers, it is her unwavering reliability that truly stands out. In a world where schedules are often hectic and commitments can be difficult to maintain, Rebecca arrived at 8:40 a.m. like clockwork — never late, never leaving early, and never cancelling. That level of responsibility is rare, and it reflects the qualities we hope to see in future leaders.

Rebecca has not simply been present — she has been purposeful. By supporting neurodivergent learners, assisting with phonics instruction, and serving as that essential extra set of hands in the classroom, she has helped shape the educational foundation of dozens of young students.

Through her kindness, patience, and willingness to serve, Rebecca has demonstrated that some of the strongest leadership comes through quiet acts of support and compassion.

While giving so much of herself to others, Rebecca has also maintained an exceptional academic standard at Vista Virtual School. Balancing the demands of Grade 12 alongside such an extensive volunteer commitment speaks to her remarkable dedication, discipline, and time-management skills.

The Board is truly impressed by the legacy of reliability and service she has built in Medicine Hat. Students like Rebecca remind us of the bright future ahead.

Congratulations Rebecca!

The school board is proud to recognize Koel Robinson of Vista Virtual School as the recipient of the Grade 12 Citizenship Award for the positive contributions he makes to his school and community.

In a distance learning environment – where the physical walls of a classroom disappear – Citizenship takes on new meaning. It is no longer about who sits in the front row, but about who demonstrates the self-discipline, integrity, and consistency of character needed to thrive in the quiet spaces of their own home.

Koel’s journey this year has been nothing short of remarkable. Distance learning demands a high level of independence, and Koel has proven himself to be a student who can be relied upon to follow through on every expectation without the need for close supervision. His teachers place complete trust in him; they know that when Koel makes a commitment, he honors it.

What makes these achievements even more impressive is the resilience behind them. Despite facing significant health and personal challenges this year, Koel has remained consistently positive, polite, and proactive. Rather than allowing obstacles to slow him down, he maintains a goal-oriented mindset – setting clear objectives, monitoring his progress, and actively seeking feedback.

Citizenship is also reflected in how we treat others – even through a screen. Koel brings a respectful and uplifting presence to our digital community. Whether through a thoughtful email or meaningful contributions during video sessions, he helps foster an environment where others feel supported and valued. His dependability is a cornerstone of his digital citizenship; by being punctual and communicating proactively, he demonstrates deep respect for the time and efforts of his peers and teachers alike.

Perhaps most importantly, Koel’s academic journey is grounded in honesty. He upholds the highest standards of integrity, taking full ownership of his learning. When mistakes occur, he does not shy away from them; instead, he takes responsibility and works diligently to improve. This maturity – knowing when to lead and when to seek support – is the mark of a true scholar.

Koel’s character and dedication serve as an inspiration to us all. He has proven that distance is no barrier to excellence.

Congratulations Koel!

The school board is pleased to present the Citizenship Award to Nadine Visser, a Grade 4 student at Neerlandia Public Christian School, in recognition of the positive contributions she makes to her school and community.

Nadine shows a strong sense of responsibility in everything she does. She takes pride in her work and approaches each task with care, focus, and a positive attitude. When she is given a job, there is no doubt that it will be completed thoughtfully and thoroughly. She works independently, follows instructions carefully, and can always be trusted to see things through.

One of Nadine’s most admirable qualities is her determination. When she encountered a challenging math concept, she didn’t wait to be asked for help. Instead, she took the initiative to bring her work home and seek extra support. This kind of perseverance and “take-charge” attitude shows a level of maturity and commitment to learning that is truly impressive.

Nadine is also a very dependable member of our classroom community. She arrives each day prepared and ready to learn, quietly setting a strong example for those around her. While she may not always be the loudest voice in the room, her actions speak volumes. She is someone her classmates and teachers can rely on, every single day.

Nadine, thank you for your hard work, your integrity, and the positive example you set for others.

Congratulations Nadine!
