October 11, 2017 Board Meeting

October 14th, 2017

Regional Office, Barrhead –

Helping to keep our students & communities safe
Director of Students Services Rob McGarva provided an overview of the Pembina River & Area Violence/Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) Protocol and Annual Report. The protocol is a community commitment to maintain safe environments for children and youth.

Through the partnership, training has been provided in threat assessment to professionals from Alberta Health Services, RCMP, Pembina Hills Public Schools, Evergreen Catholic Schools, Child and Family Services, and Family and Community Support Services. Teams are working together to support those students making threats or escalating toward acts of violence, thus averting incidents. The alignment of services amongst partners has improved as a result of the VTRA Protocol.

PHPS aligns communication protocol
Administrative Procedure (AP) 20-23 Communication Protocol has been revised to guide parents and the public when they are dissatisfied with a decision made by an employee. As a result of the change, the school board deleted Policy 9 Communications Protocol.

Trustee representation for ADLC and Vista Virtual
The school board representative for the Alberta Distance Learning Centre (ADLC) and Vista Virtual School employee awards and student celebrations was on a rotating basis in the past.

Both sites will now be consistently represented:

  • Alberta Distance Learning Centre – Swan Hills Ward trustee
  • Vista Virtual School – Barrhead South trustee
