Division reports on priorities and key strategies
Assistant Superintendent of Education Services Mark Thiesen provided an update on the key strategies of the Education Plan as they relate to the priority areas of:

  • Addressing the diversity of student needs
  • Student-teacher relationships
  • Numeracy
  • Literacy

School board adopts 2018-19 Workplan
The purpose of the Board Workplan is to guide the business of the school board throughout the school year.

Division creates planning tool for transportation of students with complex needs
Transportation Director Shantelle Haitel reviewed the recently developed Administrative Procedure and planning tool to help ensure the safe transportation of students with complex needs and/or mobility issues. The purpose of the tool is to improve communications between parents, the school and transportation.

PHPS student selected for Minister’s Youth Council
Congratulations to Tahir Natha, a Grade 8 Vista Virtual School student from Calgary who was selected from 300 applicants to the province’s 33-member 2018-19 Minister’s Youth Council.

As part of the Youth Council, Tahir will have the opportunity to travel to Edmonton three times in the next school year and speak to the Minister of Education and Alberta Education staff about curriculum, student engagement, and goals for furthering the province’s education system.

The next school board meeting is on Wednesday, August 30, 2018 at the PHPS Regional Office in Barrhead starting at 9:30 a.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
