Alberta Distance Learning Centre, Barrhead –

ADLC—Supporting Alberta schools since 1923
Principal Steven Kaplan updated the school board on the many organizational changes undertaken by ADLC, as part of their recommitment to the Service Agreement with Alberta Education. Alberta Education funds ADLC to serve all Alberta school jurisdictions.

Offering 273 programs to over 1,200 partner schools, ADLC provides two key services to schools across the province:

  • Student instruction – ADLC teachers deliver courses and provide instruction to students
  • Teacher support – ADLC provides Alberta teachers access to all of their courses so that they can be used as resources in their classroom

With the centralization of staff to Barrhead last fall, ADLC is a bustling place! Staff shared stories and activities with trustees about what it’s like to be a distance learning teacher and teach from afar.

Swan Hills teacher selected as Edwin Parr nominee
Swan Hills teacher Michelle Tran has has been selected by the school board as this year’s nominee for the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Edwin Parr Teacher Award, which recognizes first-year teachers for their outstanding efforts.

Each school board can only nominate one candidate to the zone selection committee. This year, the school board received principal recommendations for two very deserving first-year teachers for this provincial award.

The school board approved the 2019-20 calendars for the following schools: Busby, Dunstable, Eleanor Hall, Fort Assiniboine, Neerlandia Public Christian, Pembina North, Pibroch and Sunny Bend Colonies, Swan Hills and Vista Virtual.
