Legal Name Change Brought Opportunity to Synchronize Names

Recently the province changed our division’s legal name from “Pembina Hills Regional Division No. 7” to “Pembina Hills School Division”. Trustees passed a motion to change the division’s communication name “Pembina Hills Public Schools” to the new legal name “Pembina Hills School Division” with an objective of removing confusion caused by having two names. Our communication and legal names are now in sync. Our branded items will be changed over as they are replaced.

Barrhead Cares Looks for Ways to Serve Youth

Pembina Hills is one of seven partners that make up Barrhead Cares (Community Awareness Resource Education Services). Last fall, Barrhead Cares completed a research survey at Barrhead Composite High School and the results are being used to identify the strengths our youth have in their lives. Examples include family support, caring school climate, family boundaries, high expectations, youth programs and cultural competence. The results also highlighted challenges facing youth, including service to others, positive peer influence, religious community involvement and reading for pleasure.

Barrhead Cares will use the information to create a three-year plan and hold a leadership camp for a cross-section of 16 teens to look for ways to serve our youth better.

The next school board meeting is at Neerlandia Public Christian School on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 starting at 9:30 a.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
