Regional Office –
Division-provided food and beverages for events and meetings
In early 2020, the Board of Trustees passed a motion to eliminate all food and beverage spending for division, school and board events and meetings. While this action was taken to relieve budget pressures and was necessary at that time, the division’s situation has changed. The newly-elected board recognized that while budget concerns will always be top of mind, they must be balanced by operational considerations, including the ability for staff to network and host external stakeholders.
As a result, the board rescinded this motion, which will once again allow for expenditures for food and beverages at events and meetings.
Board committee adjustment
At the organizational meeting on October 27th, 2021, the board appointed Trustee Sherry Allen to serve on the Teacher Employer Bargaining Association committee, and appointed Trustee Maureen Schnirer to serve on the Negotiating – Union committee. According to Policy 08 Committees of the Board, the same trustee must sit on both committees. To comply with the policy, the board made an adjustment to the committee memberships, appointing Trustee Sherry Allen to serve on the Negotiating – Union Committee.
Information Technology (IT) Assurance Report
On an annual basis, key departments within the division make presentations to the board, providing an overview of their operations as well as some of their main projects. The IT department provides a wide range of services to all departments within the school division. This includes equipment, software and back-end support to the division’s community schools and offices, as well as to Vista Virtual School.
IT has faced significant challenges over the past year due to the end of ADLC, as well as providing supports to students and staff during the transitions to at-home learning. The board thanked the IT team for their hard work over the past year.
The next school board meeting is at Barrhead Composite High School on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 starting at 9:00 a.m. As the board resumes their practice of holding alternating meetings at schools, this will be the first meeting held at a school since February 2020.
