Citizenship Award Winner—Josie Miller

June 20th, 2025

Josie Miller is a grade 1 student at École Barrhead Elementary School. She was nominated for a Citizenship Award by her teacher, Carissa Ashton.

Josie exemplifies responsibility by caring for her belongings, classroom materials and by doing her best to complete her work. She is a supportive classmate, kindly helping others in ways that foster inclusivity.

Josie’s optimistic attitude uplifts everyone around her, and she consistently displays kindness and includes others in play. She is an attentive listener, encourages others to listen, and is honest. Josie knows what is right and works hard to focus on making good choices, even if sometimes other students around her do not. She is respectful of the feelings and boundaries of her peers and will include others in activities, even if they are not her close friends.

Josie is described as dependable. Her teacher knows that if she gives Josie a job, it will be completed quickly and accurately, and she always does so willingly, with a smile.

The school board is pleased to present Josie with the Citizenship Award in recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community.

Congratulations Josie!
