The school board is proud to recognize Koel Robinson of Vista Virtual School as the recipient of the Grade 12 Citizenship Award for the positive contributions he makes to his school and community.
In a distance learning environment – where the physical walls of a classroom disappear – Citizenship takes on new meaning. It is no longer about who sits in the front row, but about who demonstrates the self-discipline, integrity, and consistency of character needed to thrive in the quiet spaces of their own home.
Koel’s journey this year has been nothing short of remarkable. Distance learning demands a high level of independence, and Koel has proven himself to be a student who can be relied upon to follow through on every expectation without the need for close supervision. His teachers place complete trust in him; they know that when Koel makes a commitment, he honors it.
What makes these achievements even more impressive is the resilience behind them. Despite facing significant health and personal challenges this year, Koel has remained consistently positive, polite, and proactive. Rather than allowing obstacles to slow him down, he maintains a goal-oriented mindset – setting clear objectives, monitoring his progress, and actively seeking feedback.
Citizenship is also reflected in how we treat others – even through a screen. Koel brings a respectful and uplifting presence to our digital community. Whether through a thoughtful email or meaningful contributions during video sessions, he helps foster an environment where others feel supported and valued. His dependability is a cornerstone of his digital citizenship; by being punctual and communicating proactively, he demonstrates deep respect for the time and efforts of his peers and teachers alike.
Perhaps most importantly, Koel’s academic journey is grounded in honesty. He upholds the highest standards of integrity, taking full ownership of his learning. When mistakes occur, he does not shy away from them; instead, he takes responsibility and works diligently to improve. This maturity – knowing when to lead and when to seek support – is the mark of a true scholar.
Koel’s character and dedication serve as an inspiration to us all. He has proven that distance is no barrier to excellence.
Congratulations Koel!
