Meaghan McKenzie receives Exemplary Teacher Award

June 4th, 2026

For Meaghan, the school day at R.F. Staples Secondary School doesn’t end when the final bell rings.  She stays late after school, gives up her lunch hour, and serves as a steady anchor for any student who feels overwhelmed.  With patience that seems bottomless, she will explain a concept for the first time – or the fifteenth – until that “aha!” moment finally happens.  Her dedication ensures that every student has a genuine opportunity to succeed.

What truly sets Meaghan apart is her contagious enthusiasm.  She doesn’t just cover the curriculum; she lives it.  As a biology teacher, her passion for science brings every lesson to life, inspiring her students to think independently and stay curious.  She is a role model for lifelong learning, always seeking out new conferences and finding ways to connect classroom work to future careers.

In her classroom, every student feels welcome and supported.  She has created a space where it is safe to ask questions, safe to make mistakes, and safe to grow.  Beyond academics, she takes a genuine interest in her students’ lives.  She listens to their stories, celebrates their personal successes, and builds the kind of trust that stays with students long after they leave her room.

Meaghan, is shaping confident, capable young people who know, without a doubt, that someone believes in them.  R.F. Staples Secondary School is incredibly fortunate to have Meaghan.

Congratulations Meaghan!
