Pembina Hills partners with Rupertsland Institute

June 21st, 2024

We are pleased to announce that Pembina Hills is partnering with Rupertsland Institute, beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. This partnership will provide opportunities for educators to integrate authentic Métis perspectives into Early Learning through Grade 12 curriculum, including engaging lesson plans, classroom learning tools, land-based learning experiences, and community engagement.

Supporting all students in feeling seen, heard, and successful at school is a division priority.  We recognize the importance of Indigenous learners and families seeing themselves reflected in the education system to achieve educational success. Of the Pembina Hills students who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit, approximately 55% identify as Métis.

Our partnership with Rupertsland Institute will provide access to Knowledge Keepers and Elders to help guide the Division’s journey toward meeting the Calls to Action from the Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC). The Métis have a unique history and culture that needs to be recognized and celebrated. We are thankful for this opportunity for all students and staff to learn and grow through this new relationship.
