Update – October 10, 2025

This information was sent to Pembina Hills Families through SchoolMessenger on October 10.

The Government of Alberta recently announced a parent payment program to help offset costs for families with children 12 years of age and under during the current teacher strike. Applications for this program will be open on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Once available, parents can apply for this payment through their Alberta.ca My Account. To complete an application, parents will need their child’s Alberta Student Number (ASN).

Parents can find their child’s ASN in their PowerSchool Parent Portal on the Grades and Attendance screen. If applying for more than one child, parents can click on each child’s name at the top of the screen to switch between children.

For more details on eligibility and how to apply, parents can visit the Government of Alberta’s website.

Overview

Teachers across Alberta are currently in provincial bargaining. Negotiations are taking place between the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA), representing Alberta’s teachers and school administrators, and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), representing the Government of Alberta and all public, separate, and Francophone school divisions.

Individual school divisions, including Pembina Hills School Division, are not directly involved in this process. Items such as teacher salaries and benefits are negotiated centrally at the provincial level.

We deeply value the contributions of teachers and all staff in supporting student learning, and we respect the provincial bargaining process. We remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached without disruption to student learning.
