Air quality from wildfire smoke

May 16th, 2023

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement due to widespread smoke in the area, resulting in poor air quality and reduced visibility in some areas. Rest assured, our schools are monitoring air quality and will reduce or eliminate outdoor activities as needed. In addition to Environment Canada weather alerts, school staff refer to the following resources to help them make decisions:

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Students with health conditions such as asthma will be more sensitive to unhealthy air. You can keep your child home if you are concerned about sending your child to school because of the air quality. Read more about precautions you can take on the Alberta Health Services website.

If you have any questions or specific concerns, please contact your child’s school.
