Board visits Dunstable and Busby Schools

November 22nd, 2023

The Board of Trustees and Superintendent Michael Borgfjord went on the road Wednesday, November 15 with the first stop at Dunstable School. Principal Dale Erickson met with trustees, providing a brief update about the school. Erickson spoke of the value of the Inclusive Education Lead Teacher (IELT), who attends the school once per week this year, providing support to teachers and students, the overall strength of the parents and community and noted a small decrease in the student population this year, so far. Trustees toured classrooms where they chatted with staff and students, learning about what they were working on and what they liked about school.

The Board continued their road trip east to Busby School where Principal Angie Bachand summarized some of the happenings at the school. She spoke highly of school staff and the collaboration that takes place, the amazing community support the school receives and the overall culture of the school. Bachand, too, highlighted the great help the IELT has been this year (An IELT also attends Busby school once per week) and noted the continued challenges with rural bussing as well as the increase the school has seen in the need for their breakfast/lunch program. Students and staff have been making excellent use of their new gym and the space it has freed up for students and are excited for a climbing wall to be installed on their playground in the spring. Trustees visited classrooms, where they saw students doing art, playing math games and were able to listen to a song sung by a music class.
