Caring & Sharing 2023

December 22nd, 2023

It’s tradition. Our schools hold many events throughout the year, giving back to their communities through local charities, good causes, spreading cheer and kindness, raising spirits and collecting donations of all kinds. Check out some of the initiatives that have taken place at our schools so far this year!

Barrhead Composite High School

BCHS held a Wake-a-Thon fundraiser on December 1, raising $7002 for STARS. The school also collected donations for the Barrhead Food Bank in December.

BES students and staff collected toys and Food Bank donations in December.

Dunstable School

Dunstable School students and staff collected toques, mitts, scarves and more that decorated their Tree of Warmth, toys for their Stuff-a-Stocking event as well as 200lbs in November Food Bank donations that were donated to FCSS Barrhead.

Eleanor Hall School

EHS students have been participating in a “Light Our School with Kindness” challenge where they recognize acts of kindness by anyone in the school and write their names down on a paper shaped like a Christmas light and post them around the school. The school also held a Food Drive for the Westlock Food Bank where they were able to donate four large boxes and approximately $150 in monetary donations. The season wouldn’t be complete without the school’s annual Christmas store for students to buy and wrap small thoughtful gifts for their loved ones.

Fort Assiniboine School

The school held their annual White Elephant Gift Shop where all students pick out gifts from new/gently used donated items for their immediate family members and volunteer to help wrap them before taking them home. Students also got to enjoy a Christmas feast with turkeys donated by Woodlands County.

Earlier this year, students held a “Drive Away Hunger” campaign and collected 361 lbs of food for the Barrhead Food Bank.

Neerlandia Public Christian School

Gr. 2 classes made cards and delivered them to people within Neerlandia and made up four Samaritan Purse Christmas boxes. Gr. 3s made wooden Christmas boxes and Gr. 3 and 6 delivered them to seniors in their community. Gr. 4s made gift bags for seniors in the hamlet and also for friends and relatives in Barrhead.

The school collected monetary Food Bank donations at their Christmas Concert on December 20 where they raised $635.55 for the Barrhead FCSS. In October, they also collected food items for the Food Bank (pictured below).
