Carling Montgomery receives the Exemplary Teacher Award

Carling Montgomery is a Junior High Teacher at Pembina North Community School (PNCS) and has been with Pembina Hills for 11 years. During this time, she has worked at Jarvie School, R.F. Staples, Barrhead Composite High School and for the last six years at Pembina North Community School. 

Carling has taken on many leadership roles and supports her students, colleagues and community in many ways. Her leadership abilities and efforts have contributed to the outstanding Junior High program at PNCS. She leads division meetings to ensure her team continually improves and creates goals that benefit student learning in many ways. As the school’s Professional Development leader, Carling offers advice and opportunities for teachers to learn and grow in their practice. She makes new staff members feel welcome and helps them get situated in their new rooms offering support in helping them get ready for a new teaching assignment.

Carling has also taken on the joint responsibility (with the school librarian) of improving and decorating our school’s library over the last few years. One of her most important contributions to the library is the creation of our Indigenous resource centre. She ensures these resources are utilized and shares ideas and plans for teachers at PNCS to implement them into their classrooms. Carling organizes many activities for the students, staff and community at PNCS. This long list includes Grade 9 farewell, Christmas Concert, No Stone Left Alone, Year-end field trips, bringing in guest speakers and taking on our student leadership class. 

Her great sense of humour and bright personality allow her to easily create connections with her students. She is passionate about guiding them through these teenage years and advising them on how to succeed in the future. 

Pembina North Community School is fortunate to have Carling on staff. Her drive and determination ensure the success of everyone making her truly deserving of the Exemplary Teacher Award.
