Citizenship Award Winner — Ayla K.

June 15th, 2023

Ayla is a Grade 5 student at Fort Assiniboine School. She was nominated for a Citizenship Award by her teacher Miranda Pybus.

Ayla is a leader in supporting others and is a conscientious person. She is known for showing kindness towards her peers and in accepting new students, showing them warmth as they join their new school. Ayla is the first to jump in to help any student, whether they are looking for their supplies, need help with reading or help understand classroom expectations. She enjoys teaching others new games or simply helping them with school work they are having difficulty with and is always willing to lend a listening ear. She recognizes that everyone is different, including how they learn, and shows patience and understanding with others who make need extra time or help.

On the basketball team, she understands the importance of a team dynamic. She wants all of her teammates to feel included. She will pass the ball to a member who may not get the ball very often and supports them, regardless of their friendship status. On the playground, she is no different. You can often find her playing with younger kids, pushing them on the swings or just playing. She wants everyone to be included and is everyone’s cheerleader.

Having the courage to do what is right, Ayla stands up for herself and for others. If Ayla feels someone is being wronged, she sticks to them, ensuring they feel supported and like they have someone to turn to. She is the epitome of a rule follower. If her peers do something that she doesn’t feel is right she stands up to them and says so, or is willing to go off on her own. She is always trying to do her best and encourages others to do the same.

The school board is pleased to present Ayla with a Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community.

Congratulations Ayla!
