Citizenship Award Winner—Josh Garbiar

May 31st, 2021

Josh Garbiar is a Grade 9 student at Pembina North Community School. He was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Teacher Mike Ivey.

Josh demonstrates responsibility by always giving his best effort in everything he does. He takes responsibility for all of his work—he completes his homework and is not shy to ask if he does not understand something. This shows how much he cares about his work and learning.

Josh was also shown how to clear the outdoor rink ice with the snowblower and sweeper last year, and has taken responsibility for the rink, keeping it cleared off for all of the other grades to be able to skate. He demonstrated a very impressive understanding of the ice machines and we felt very comfortable that he was using them safely and responsibly. He is a very dependable student.

As an intramural floor hockey captain, Josh shows that he helps and supports others, often explaining to his teammates the different elements of hockey to help them improve in the game. He will also pass the ball around often, even when he could have taken it all by himself, which shows his unselfishness. Josh is an excellent hockey player, and athlete, and would do anything for his teammates. Josh also made it possible for others to be able to skate by going out in the cold, snowy conditions and clearing the ice.

Josh always puts his best foot forward. Even with those cold, wintery days he would go out to clear the ice for everyone else—no questions asked. He has a positive attitude and is always ready to go. Even with challenging concepts in math, he grits his teeth and gives it his all. Consistently in a good mood at school, Josh also loves to joke around, tell stories, and make people laugh—which he does on a daily basis.

The school board is pleased to present Josh with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions he makes in his school and community. Congratulations!
