Citizenship Award Winner—Julia McCoy

Julia McCoy is a grade 9 student at Eleanor Hall School. She was nominated for a Citizenship Award by her teacher, Michelle Savoie.

Julia consistently demonstrates outstanding responsibility across all aspects of her school life. An honour student in all of her subjects, Julia’s academic dedication is truly exceptional. She proactively seeks clarification when needed and diligently revises her work to achieve her goals. 

Beyond academics, Julia excels in extracurricular activities, consistently achieving high placements in 4-H competitions and actively participating in numerous school sports teams throughout junior high. This year, her leadership shone brightly as captain of both the girls’ volleyball and basketball teams, where she led her teams to impressive finishes. Julia’s commitment extends to the Student Wellness Action Team (SWAT), where she is a dependable and positive contributor.

Julia’s positive attitude is infectious and has significantly impacted her sports teams. As captain, she fostered a supportive and energetic environment, initiating team-building traditions like bringing school-spirited treats and coordinating team hairstyles for every game, even dedicating her lunch hours to ensure everyone participated. Julia is a respected figure among her peers, who look up to her unwavering belief in herself and others. She possesses a remarkable ability to creatively solve problems and inspire positive contributions in group settings, whether in the classroom, on SWAT, or during sports.

Demonstrating remarkable integrity, Julia consistently shows the courage to do what is right. She is honest and forthright, respectfully addressing peers who are not following rules and encouraging them to meet expectations. Julia proudly stands up for herself and others when necessary.

As captain of the girls’ sports teams, Julia has proved to be exceptionally dependable. She attended every practice and game, and created an organized binder for their coach, showcasing integral leadership. Julia actively assisted with training, explaining rules and plays, and maintained an encouraging presence both on and off the court.

The school board is pleased to present Julia with the Citizenship Award in recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community.
