Maverick Cloutier is a Grade 12 student at R. F. Staples Secondary School. He was nominated for the Citizenship Award by Teacher Jon Radke.
Maverick demonstrates responsibility by taking care that his work is completed on time and to the best of his ability. If he is going to be away from school he notifies his teachers and assures them that he will keep up with his work and asks other students to aid him in learning the lessons he missed.
Maverick helps and supports others both on his hockey team and in class, particularly younger people. He looks out for younger hockey players, helping them with their equipment, passing to them on the ice, and generally helping them to feel included on the team. He is a great role model for them. He also helps other students in class and on occasion has helped his teacher solve technical issues with computers.
Although it is difficult to see with the mask, Maverick always has a positive attitude at school and at the rink. He is usually smiling and engaging in uplifting conversation. His nominator says, “I have never heard Maverick speak negatively about other people or circumstances.” Maverick is not too shy to say encouraging things to other people – to cheer them on. He displays acts of kindness by identifying situations where he may help others.
Maverick is focused, strategic and confident when it comes to working towards goals. He listens to others in a way that makes the other person feel he cares about what you have to say. “He looks you in the eyes and usually asks you how you are doing rather than talking about himself.”
He is dependable—always on time for class or practices, submits assignments on time, and will let his teachers know ahead of time if there will be a reason for him to be absent. Hockey coaches and teachers know that they can rely on Maverick to do what they ask him and to set a good example for others.
The school board is pleased to present Maverick with the Citizenship Award for recognition of the positive contributions he makes in his school and community. Congratulations!
