Citizenship Award Winner — Shailyn Callihoo

June 21st, 2023

Shailyn is a Grade 12 student graduating from Swan Hills School.

Shailyn understands the importance of responsibility. As a senior student, she feels a sense of duty to set an example for other students in citizenship and leadership skills and how to be a respectable student. As captain of her volleyball team, she has also showed responsibility for her team, both on and off the court. She stepped in when she learned of some issues between some other players and helped resolve it, knowing things off the court can affect the team dynamic as much as those on the court, and, because it was the right thing to do.

As a grade 12 student, she has also experienced the increased difficulty in her courses. Noticing some of her classmates struggling, she began to ask if they needed help and supported them as they learned as she wants them to succeed. Her teacher recognized Shailyn’s helpful nature and also encouraged students to reach out to her for help.

Shailyn is very much aware of peer pressure. She has shown the courage to do what is right when she has encountered situations where she was offered to participate in certain activities that she wholeheartedly declined knowing the consequences and that it’s not the right thing to do.

The Board of Trustees is pleased to present Shailyn with a Citizenship Award in recognition of the positive contributions she makes in her school and community.

Congratulations Shailyn!
