Jessica Stevens Receives Exemplary Teacher Award

March 19th, 2025

Imagine a teacher whose classroom transcends textbooks; a teacher who ignites a passion for lifelong learning not just within her students, but within the entire school community. This is the essence of Jessica Stevens at R.F. Staples Secondary School (RFS).

Jessica is more than just an educator; she’s a champion for student potential. Instead of a routine curriculum, she introduces students to diverse activities, from curling to para-sports like wheelchair basketball. She believes every student deserves the opportunity to discover a lifelong passion; one that extends beyond the classroom, pushing students to think independently and to be responsible for their own growth, both physically and intellectually.

Her spirit inspires deep respect throughout the school. Her colleagues marvel at her boundless energy. Jessica continuously goes the extra mile for students, spending weekends organizing ski trips to Jasper and chaperoning Friday night dances until the early morning hours. She spearheads school spirit initiatives, pep rallies and everything in between and even oversees the student union.

Her enthusiasm, often expressed in her iconic red sequined jacket and bedazzled shoes, is infectious and creates a positive, welcoming environment for everyone, from students and parents to colleagues.

The Exemplary Awards Recognition Committee is pleased to present Jessica with the Exemplary Teacher Award in recognition of the positive contributions she makes to her school and community.

Congratulations Jessica!
