Laurie Walker receives the Exemplary Teacher Award

Laurie Walker is a Grade 4 teacher at Pembina North Community School and has been with Pembina Hills for 23 years. Laurie is always there for her students and coworkers in so many ways. Laurie goes above and beyond to connect with students through coaching a variety of sports, classroom activities and her attention to detail ensures every student gets individualized attention for their academics.

Throughout the last 21 years, Laurie has taken her Grade 4 students to Drumheller for a three-day trip. This trip is renowned in the community, as students create memories that last forever. Laurie spends countless hours organizing fundraisers like highway cleanup and bottle drives to make this trip happen.

Outside the classroom, Laurie is a leader in the school. She organizes the Remembrance Day ceremony every year, ensuring that all students have an active role. She has mentored student teachers, served as an ATA representative, and is currently the school’s OH&S officer. 

The school motto “United We Achieve Excellence”, is exemplified by Laurie. She pours her heart and soul into the school every day, ensuring that they do indeed, achieve excellence. Pembina North Community School is fortunate to have Laurie on staff. Laurie truly deserves this Exemplary Teacher Award.
