Substitute Appreciation Week, March 9-13, 2026

March 9th, 2026

Each year, we set aside one week to appreciate the Substitute Teachers who jump to our rescue when our regular staff must be away. But how is one week per year near enough to express our gratitude for the vital role they play in our Division?

These professionals are far more than “fill-ins”. The reality of the school year is a relentless cycle of deadlines, lesson plans and student needs. Substitute teachers are the essential gears that keep the engine of education moving. They don’t just “watch” a class; they step in, take the wheel and ensure that learning doesn’t stop.

If we only value our substitute teachers during the designated appreciation week, we fail to recognize their contributions properly. Our gratitude should be as constant and reliable as these staff members. True appreciation isn’t a scheduled event once a year. It is the culture we build every time they enter our buildings and acknowledge their expertise and dedication.

Let’s remember to take every opportunity to show our thanks. Whether it’s a smile in the morning, a check-in during the day, or a sincere thank you at the end of the day, let’s ensure our substitute teachers know they are valued members of our team all year long.
