Teacher Strike Vote Update

June 11th, 2025

We want to keep parents, guardians and staff informed about a recent development in the provincial bargaining process between the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA).

From June 5 to 8, the ATA held a province-wide strike vote. We’ve been informed that approximately 95% of participating teachers voted in favour of authorizing strike action. While this does not mean a strike is happening right away, it gives the ATA the legal right to begin strike action any time within the next 120 days, as long as they give 72 hours’ notice. As of this writing, no strike notice has been given, and we understand that more bargaining dates are scheduled this month.

Because this is a province-wide negotiation, any potential job action would affect all public school divisions in Alberta, including Pembina Hills.

At this time, there is no disruption to learning. Our schools remain open, and classes, exams, and year-end activities are continuing as planned. We want to emphasize that teachers remain on the job and are committed to student learning.

We are actively monitoring the situation between the ATA and provincial government and are committed to keeping families and staff informed as the process continues through updates on the division website, direct emails to parents and staff through SchoolMessenger and on division social media channels.

We value the dedication of our teachers and the invaluable work they do to support student learning and success. We respect the bargaining process and are hopeful that a settlement will be reached without a disruption to student learning.

Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding.
